FSJ Coil Spring Conversion????? Curious to know if anyone has seen, attempted or know of a coil spring conversion on an FSJ?
Have seen other makes and models of early 4x4s changed from leaf to coil and wonder if would be a fesible idea? Have looked at the Landrover Defender set up and reakon I could have a crack at making it fit......I have a big hammer and a welder so its a start right :) |
i wouldn't bother, they go good as it is

The big Red Chief from tuff truck 1 all those years back had coil overs no idea on the details of what he used

The stock Landi front end doesnt flex very well, leaf springs work better if set up properly. If you where gunna go to all the expense (getting legal) of a coil spring setup youd be better of with some sort of 5 link long arm.

A coople of months back JP Mag in the US had pics of a built yellow FSJ (actually it was a 2 door, we call it a chief, they call it a cherokee) with coils all round and a 5 link long arm front- i believe it used JK diffs and long arms, modded to suit the chassis length. The positioning of the JK axle coil and shock mounts was also then used as the basis to build upper spring perches and shock hoops.
A LOT of work went into it- i believe it was built by an engineer involved in the skunkworks division of Jeep? Here's one thread on it, do another search on IFSJA http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showt...88#post1072888 Here's the build thread. Happy reading. Note the engine used...... :) http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=89280 |
