What did you do to your Grand today (ZJ/WJ)?

2 Attachment(s)
these are my Grands.........ZG Limited 4.0 has stainless extractors, custom stereo (800+ watts), stage 2 Jet chip, tint, protectors....WH Limited has 5.7 Hemi, sunroof, ARB winch bar (no winch yet), tint, custom exhaust (headers on way, probly crank up the stereo a bit too)

kimamigo 26-10-2007 04:49 PM

Thanks....yep Matt, exhaust makes a difference and so does the chip,... regularly get 800 ks from a tank of premium,(10.6L/100k) although most of that is with cruise and it's easy to fit, as is uprated h/lights, relays, TJM bar, electronic antirust, etc....WH is nowhere near that, 15.4L/100k on same route as the ZG, although it's getting better as the kilometers get up a bit,...
... haven't tested the ARB on it yet JTO, she really needs an 40 - 50 mm lift kit though

Haha, I forgot she was in there too! She was a friendly little stray that kept coming around to our house, so I had her checked for a microchip and adopted her :D

She isn't a pure breed, the vet confirmed this, and I'd seen the mother around before too (just a plain moggy), but she's still an awesome cat :D

Anyway, we've digressed off topic a little here...

Hi, Mine is pretty basic - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee! Still to sell my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Have had Discovery’s in that past and apart from the sissy wheel nuts on the Jeep product compared to the Discos, I am happy with the product. A few basic issues I need to tend to on my 2001 car - drivers seats bolsters, plastic seat surrounds broken, plastic inner door panels not fitting up tight and thus rubber does not fix onto window as it should!, tweeter speakers, steering wheel gel collapsed!!

Regards

Ray

Hey WJlimited, your Jeep looks awesome.
Where did you get your front bar from and how much did you pay?
Are you able to post a better pic of it?

Cheers, Craig

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that already, rising water has a way of diverting ones attention.

Anyway, I'd better do these as thumbnails, or I'll crash the forum with the amount I want to show (I have a happy shutter-finger on my camera haha) and trust me, these are only a few haha.
Here goes.

Clicking the thumbs will take you to slightly larger, yet not full size images. To get to the full size, hover over the image when it takes you to imageshack and click the magnifying glass. Most I've downscaled to 30%, but some are are still as large as 50% (sunset at the start and sunset at the end for example).

Oh, and, before someone picks me up on it, I'm aware (now) that I had crap on my image sensor. Quite frustrating to be looking through my photos and find the same dark blob on them. We cleaned it over Christmas, but obviously got more crap in there afterwards. Ah well

This was in NSW somewhere on the drive down.

While I was off galavanting around taking photos, my brother decided to dig the sand out from under my wheels where I was parked. I didn't get stuck, but payback was in order, and it was too hot to work a shovel, so I used four rotary shovels to try to dig it up in front of him and get him stuck :D

Oh no, he got stuck again hahaha. I deliberately drove on the softer section, closer to the water as I went past him to rub it in hehehe
http://imageshack.us/a/img94/7480/joe4509.th.jpg
I had a chuckle at this guy. He had the whole paddock to munch on, but insisted on sticking his head in and out of the fence to get to the grass near the road.
http://imageshack.us/a/img407/4940/joe4547.th.jpg
First time I've seen so many Galahs on the beach. Obviously munching on something growing there.
http://imageshack.us/a/img833/6351/joe4563.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img545/643/joe4566.th.jpg
Playing on the dunes to the south of Robe.
http://imageshack.us/a/img835/7223/joe4587.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img195/5730/joe4588.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img585/7826/joe4603.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img90/6751/joe4613.th.jpg
And then that happened. Went up a dune with a little too much right foot, and turned my dana 30 into a banana. Attempted to pull out the axle shafts to stop everything turning over in the diff and the prop shaft. We got the short side out ok, but the long side was jammed in because of the bend in the housing. We put the hubs back on and the next day I realised we were lucky to get back without the wheels falling off, as the CV cup that has the abs tone ring on it actually holds the wheel hub bearings together, they are only a pressed together assembly. So then before driving home we had to disassemble the CV joints so we could just use the cup/housing to hold the bearing together. Sketchy sh!t. (yes we have video with all four wheels in the air, that's coming later)(I hate watching it, such a dumbar$e for doing it)

Mt Terrible - Donald Track
This track was actually rather disappointing. Dad had been talking it up as nearly impossible, however they had dozed it and widened it since he had been there last, so although it was steep in sections, it was a bit of a walk in the park.

Little mine we found. Gate was (recently) welded closed. I couldn't believe how cold it was, just in the cutting walking up to the gate, still in the open. It was at least 15Degrees colder at the gate than at the cars.
http://imageshack.us/a/img819/2236/joe4704.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img15/2519/joe4708.th.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img542/557/joe4711.th.jpg

This is somewhere in NSW, between Moree and Goondiwindi on my way home. There was a massive storm front on the highway in front of me, with lots of lightning strikes, so I thought I'd pull over and try my luck at getting a lightning shot. After an hour, I finally managed to get one with the camera set up taking photos every second :) (plus, the sunset looked pretty good too)

Def did! Thanks for taking the time to post :). Look like a great trip. There seems to be so many great places to tour/wheel/visit on the east coast, I wish it was closer to me and my Jeep... You obviously enjoy taking your photos as well as it looks like you put thought into it and they look great, what camera/equip are you using?

All is well for me and those I know, however it's confirmed that 6 people have lost their lives to this natural disaster.
The water is receeding very quickly, as the storm and rain came from the ocean this time, not from inland as it normally would, so rivers are draining quickly in places.

Ah, a welcome sound to my ears after ensuing arguments on facebook regarding instagram (hate it), so thank you :D

Camera is a Nikon D7000 DSLR and I use three Nikon lenses, a wide angle (non fish eye, but it still distorts a little) 10-24mm lens, an all-round 18-105mm lens, and a telephoto 70-300mm for those longer shots :) and a tripod to make things a little easier.
I'm still learning how to use it, but it's great fun to experiment, and takes good video too (all my youtube videos are taken with the Nikon)

I'm sure WA has it's awesome sights to see too! I remember seeing a photo on here a while ago of someone with a Grand on a pristine beach in WA somewhere with beautiful white sand, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the beach.

Now I suppose you want me to get started on all the video editing, so you can watch that too huh? haha

That's some decent gear you're using. I'm really a beginner but my friends have DSLR's and we're all 'into' photography and I'm actually looking to upgrade to some Nikon DSLR stuff soon. Been looking at the D5200, but I'm prob going to wait until the D7100 comes out.

I'm glad you told me about the wide angle lens, as I may look to get one of those as well as apart from the stock lens they usually come with I want a nice wide lens. And good to know that your vids were done with this cam as they look like great quality.

Yeah WA has got some great stuff. The only prob is everything is so spread out over here, gotta drive for hours to get to where you want to.. We do have heaps of beaches like you described, in fact I'd say that is mostly what the 4wd culture over here is, just heading to the beach for camping, fishing, playing in dunes etc.

pmac 31-01-2013 11:49 AM

I've started to get into photography myself. Bought a Canon 550D, which is the top end of the consumer range for Canon. After that it's pro and that starts really getting expensive. Basically similar internals for the 550D and it's bigger brothers although the pros have a stronger body and slightly bigger sensor. Obviously the 1D is far better again.

I bought it to do movies. The TV crews shoot production quality TV ads on 7D's these days. But the problem I found is the size of the files. They are HUGE. A 10 minute recording is bigger than a 2 hr DVD (about 4 GB), and as such it takes a painfully long time to load into Microsoft Movie Maker before you can even start the edit process. Anyone know how to speed up the process?? Is there a better free (or cheap) movie editing program?

Hanna 24-02-2013 04:23 AM

Good idea:

Let mine sit in the long term car park at Tullamarine Airport for the last 10 days whilst I have been in New Zealand :-(

It's OK though - we'll be reunited tomorrow night! :-)

Raisins78 24-02-2013 04:39 PM

I removed my rear left window regulator, now waiting for the new Ally blocks to replace the plastic one that broke, and the others that haven't broke just yet.

drover 24-02-2013 05:39 PM

Every Sunday I lift the bonnet and make sure it's all there with no surprises, still there thankfully, then go full bore up Toowoomba range to go shopping, nothing better than cruising past less capable vehicles.
Then get home and dream about what I would like to add to it, so I'm ready when the Lotto cheque turns up.

Tiddy 26-02-2013 04:05 PM

Well not today exactly, but over the weekend, replaced my old crazed headlights with lovely crystal clear new(secondhand) ones.

I also replaced the parking lights with some really cool LED lights, they & the new headlights are just so much better at night.

First Service - 1 month one, not the first real one

Installed front recovery point - I reckon I'll be waiting a while for the ARB front bar.

Updated the software of my headunit - kept switching back to radio randomly from the ipod

Captured my engine map for the "sand issue = fail" - gets sent back to chrysler for a module update. Haven't had it in the sand yet, but heading to Straddie for easter.

Couldn't fault my problem with a shudder from heavy accel from 100km/hr, but offered me to take a tech for a ride (not today though). I took it down the gateway on the way home and it's very repeatable so will take them up on this. I believe its a torque converter issue similar to the hemi one that's on the states forums. Can't handle the torque!

Overall very happy with Albion service, didn't get any blah, blah bullshit - I'll continue to take it there.

Hebbo 01-03-2013 11:01 PM

Where do I begin lol
new tyres maxxis bighorn 265/70r17
installed rhino roof bars
ironman steel roof basket
ironman 2x2.5 awning with optional tent
And finally a 2.5 inch exhaust

A few weeks ago did a 3" IRO lift, jks quick disconnects, UHF and a set of lightforce xgt spotties

Still on the cards is a dual battery setup in the now useless spare wheel well, front recovery point as I find the look of the wg quiet nice and a bullbar would spoil it and possibly a hid kit on the front headlights

Sorry blokes, I'm to blame for brisbane's weather... I've washed my jeep every one of the only three fine days we've had in brissie for a month! :hammer:

I don't think it's going to change anytime soon, we're nearly at Easter and that always equals rain as well.

We just had the international Airshow on at Avalon and 4WDVIC, MJOC, Geelong and Bellarine 4X4 clubs ran members of the public around the test track for a few days.
I organised the MJOC end of things but unfortunately my WG was on "static display" as I've been a bit lazy replacing my front drive shaft.

as it's been flooding around my town lately, i went for a spin down a 1k dirt track i know of... who knew that one car could get soooo muddy and soooo dirty from a very short 5 min drive....

wife text me saying she was at the counter paying so i went back to coles. driving through the car park dripping mud off the car and every one was looking at me.... *innocent eyes* you'd think none of them ever saw a dirty car before... (the bumps put my daughter to sleep precious thing)
first thing the wife said is...
*your washing my car this weekend now you know that right*.... - sigh it's a never ending battle... car looks Great with mud all over it in the drive way though :D

Sounds like you had great fun!

This might be just chinese whispers, but I heard that a guy here on the Sunshine Coast got done under the anti-hooning laws for having a dirty 4wd. He was simply filling up in the servo and they pulled in behind him. Couldn't read the number plates, lights not visible, putting mud on road - the list went on.

I'm lucky that I haven't been done for the same when I had the WJ.
