Gidday Bodgie and Grand WJ
Thanks for your feedback guys. And I thought I was clever getting everything back exactly how it was before I started......no doubt the result of an inept technician who did the wheel alignment about 6 months ago!!
Please pardon my ignorance but to clarify... are you guys saying that the "collar" that the bolt on the drivers side end of the damper goes up through needs to be rotated 180 degrees? That would seem to bring the damper back around and then parallel as suggested.
Thanks again for looking out for me guys.

I've just had a look on youtube and found under search "how to change steering damper wj grand cherokee" (my wife's clever idea and I'll never live it down!!) and all video clips show the "collar" facing down with the bolt through from behind parallel to the ground and the nut on the forward facing end of the bolt. Hope that description makes sense. So I will rotate my "collar" down 90 degrees which should fix everything.
Thanks again

What did you do to your Grand today?

Another early day home (bloody raining up here again in Mackay) so took Bodgie's and Grand WJ's helpful advice and re-aligned my steering damper. Looks much better now and much less likely to break it on my next trip out wheelin'.

Looks much better:)

Did you install it to solve a problem? If so what?

Hi Bodgie
If you look at original damper in first photo from yesterday you will see that it was in the wrong position (thanks to wheel alignment people). It got whacked on a rock or something when I was out wheeling and the impact cracked it which caused all the oil to drain out. I also blew out one front and opposite rear shock (was a very expensive trip) and got major scary death wobble the other day on the way to work which convinced me to do the change out. No more wobbles since and new Bilstein 5100's coming from Murchisons in a couple of weeks when I've the coin organised.

Drove it to the ARB pre-stocktake sale on the way to work around 6:30am to see if I could grab one of the Fridge/Freezers for $400... kept on driving when I saw the line up out the front!

I installed a pair of Philips Daylight 8 DRL's into my radiator grill.

I wired them in with the original ones.

They are much better than the Jeep ones in the headlight assembly:
