3.0L Diesel Bottom End Fail

I've tried searching the forums in here with no luck so far. The 3.0L diesel only 2015 WK2 just failed big time. Bottom end main bearings shot. I'm up for a new (or second hand) engine. I see this is listed in some of the US forums. Has this occurred to anyone else outside of the warranty period? Any advice on whether FCA would come to the party?

I'm gutted.

There have been a couple of mentioned on here.
Potential bottom end failures can be caused by fuel dilution of the engine oil due to excessive DPF regenerations not giving the oil enough time for the fuel to evaporate off when at operating temp. When this happened to my 2015 the indicators were:
1. Rising oil level on the dipstick
2. Increased fuel consumption of 9.4- 10 ltrs per 100 on hwy cycle instead of 6.8-7.4 ltrs per 100 (non towing)
2. EVIC oil life % dropping 1% every 200km till about the 850km mark then 1% drop every 35km there after till 0% oil life & oil change at about the 3000km mark
Whilst mine didn't damage the crank bearings I suspect it would have if I didn't do the oil changes as per the EVIC oil life recommendation. The fix was to remove the DPF- clean it at a DPF cleaning place, replace the pressure differential switch & check the DPF temp sensor was OK. I now run a Bluedriver unit & monitor the DPF regen cycles.
When I explained to Jeep what the vehicle was doing 2 months before the warranty ran out they didn't have a clue & said not to worry about the oil life % as it can't monitor the oil quality. What the oil life % does do is calculate the amount of fuel being burnt against distance travelled, engine temps, revs etc. If I had ignored the EVIC & not done the oil changes I'm sure my engine would have had crank bearing damage.
These guys can supply a second hand engine http://allgrandcherokee.com.au/

3.0L Diesel Rod through the Sump?

Yes... Gutted as well! Just had mechanic tell me to start looking for a new engine! Not happy at all! Not too many available in Perth I wouldn't expect. Would never anticipate this event occurring on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with only 145K on the clock. Any ideas on where to source such an engine in Australia would be most welcome?

Try the all grand Cherokee link in post #2 - they specialise in repair/service & parts supply from wrecked WK2 models

There are quite a few posts world wide re bottom end failure in these motors.
Who was servicing your vehicle ,what grade /brand of oil was used .There is conjecture that the URGENT dealer TSB in around 2016 that all these WK2 diesels must have an immediate oil change from 5w30 to 5 w40 was due to premature engine failure. At the time a 5w40 sticker was meant to be applied to the oil cap. Some oil companies still stating 5w30 still ok.Wrong.I would take an oil sample if any left and get it analysed. No harm in sending a letter to FCA stating that a well serviced engine should not self destruct at such low klms.
Gumtree Qld had many WK2s ,late modeldiesels wrecking acouple of weeks ago
