Buddhas Trailer evoloution
 

So i thought id up date from when i sprung over my new trailer.
All work has been done by myself, except for making the canvas canopy.
Now sits almost level with my jeep, on some 31"muddies, hub conversion,
new super fat homemade flares.

Hey that is pretty good hey. I have to build one to tow my buggy. Any tips? Are there federal/state rules and regs that you have to comply with?

I would genuinely be interested in anything you learned and what you would do differently if you built another.

Did you paint it or powder coat it? What kind of hitch? Did you fit shocks? What weight do you reckon it can safely carry?

Hey Buddha, I am looking at doing something exactly the same. How high are the sides of the trailer (standard is any where from 250-300mm).

When you did the spring over did your 31's fit without any further spaces etc?

How is it going now, any further suggestions. Thanks

Word to the wise:-)
If you intend to keep the slipper spring, glue a plastic (oil impregnated if you can find some) pad on the chassis rail where the slipper moves.
Failing that weld a wear plate of at least 6mm thick where the spring moves. A few hundred k's on corrugations and the slipper will wear through the chassis rail....

Don't be tempted to fit shockies with that light load as it will make the suspension way too stiff and throw the thing all over the road.

I hunted down some old Valiant Regal springs for my trailer. Long and supple...

Dave the trailer is still going strong.

Use it as a camping trailer, have loaded it up, slept in it, filled it with rocks and my trail bikes and no problems.

Not sure what you mean by the sides of the trailer but when standing level if i want to put something in the trailer and slide it over the top edge , that measures 98 cm from the groung. (hope that helps).

The 31s wouldnt fit because of the turned down lip of the original trailer flares, so i chopped the turned down bitt completely off and then made some chequer plate flares to go straight over the extsting original ones. That also solved the problem of the tyres hanging out 2 inches or so.

I am definately no fabricator but i think it turned out pretty good.

A better set of springs would be the go if the budget permits.

Buddha, you have done a great job, might do something similiar or order a wider set of guards.

I cannot justify a $3000.00 '4WD' when I only need something simple for garden waste and lugging the camping gear to a site. Will not be doing any rough 4WDing with it.
