Project Offroad Camper

Many of you may have seen my last build/conversion at the following THREAD. Since the offroad caravan has found a new home with a wonderful couple I have been working on my new project.

I have not built this one. I have designed this custom one of a kind camper and had it meticulously built.

With the look towards just couple touring, we needed a camper, small toy carrier and finally product carrier for moving stock to shows for the sideline business.

Build sheet as follows:
  • Teardrop like but with a big back door.
  • Side doors and windows
  • Roof top tent and internal room to sleep.
  • Dimensions L 3m x W 1.5 H 1.9m
  • Lighter than the caravan.
  • Body no wider than the Wrangler.
  • Exposed steel tubular guards and rear step.
  • Full alloy chassis
  • Air bag independent suspension.
  • Side pull out kitchen.
  • Fridge in front box.
  • Riding on matched Jeep Wrangler hubs and 33'' rubber.

Look forward to seeing it evolve, sounds like something i could use too. Are the hubs being custom made or imported? I realise it will be small but are you planning on putting on brakes?
Glad you found a good home for the last one. Im trying to gradually convince my wife that we need a camper trailer. It worked once with the tyres,( i dont really know how) but she suggested "shouldnt you have a 2nd set of wheels and tyres for 4wd'ing?"

"Dr says I need a backiotomy!"

Haha good luck with that.

The same (hubs) stud pattern I was referring to. Suspension system including electric brakes is from Vehicle Components and the hitch is a DO35 from the same company.

This unit is on the road and basic finished, looking forward to showing the build.

My first sketch of the trailer. No pull out kitchen or fridge box in this one though.

Consider building the wheels inboard. That's what I did with my camper. It makes it so much roomier. Or you can use that extra 300mm each side for storage compartments - accessible from either the inside or outside (like a Patriot camper). I find it also gives me better driveability because I can see the limits of the trailer easier and don't get caught-up on the guards as much.

Maybe try this place for parts?

As per my first post this trailer is basically finished, I intended to post progressive photos of the build but I'm currently fighting the flu. I wanted a trailer with the basic width as the vehicle and also easy access to the roof top tent for setup by standing on the guards. The guards are visible to the side mirrors and with marker lights on the top of each guard with be visible at night.

If I wished to add storage in the future these areas could be used but with the storage room with have I don't think it will be necessary.
