Tailgate struts I am planning to do a bonnet strut mod on my pre-update, I have been given some pics which means I don't need to re-invent the wheel but the struts used in the pics are from an update, I only have pre-update struts and Zg GC struts.
What I would like to know is if somebody can measure their update struts and give me the lengths both extended and compressed? If there is interest in this mod (and I get the ok from the owner of the pics) I can do a bit of a write up on this... Cheers, JJ |
Cant help with measurements, mines a pre update. But would sure be interested in the mod.
cheers |
Update tailgate struts...600mm open and 400mm closed. That's from the middle of the ball at the bottom to the top of the mounting plate at the top.

Cheers Billnick....

JJ go ahead, i would have done a write up but did not take pics as i did it, was a little trial and error, with your skills your write would be more helful than mine.
Cheers, |
Cheers Rob, just wanted to be sure, I will use some pics of mine and some of yours showing the differences between the struts depending on availability, I also have some from a Zg so I will see if they suit.
Stay tuned.... |
Now I have a wreck at home to play with I am planning to get a little more of this done.
The thing I need to watch is that the strut doesn't hit the washer bottle filler and the snorkel tube, I also need to get enough angle on the strut so it will actually lift the bonnet. The pre-update struts are looking like they may be too long, the Zg struts seem to be a better length so far... This is where I am going to try first using the existing hole albeit slightly enlarged with some reinforcement behind it if it works, luckily I have an old bonnet that I can experiment with till I get it right. http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/...89_resizea.jpg I don't suppose anybody nearby in Brisbane has a pair of update struts that I can beg, borrow or steal for these experiments?
