Headlight Bulb

At the 48 month service, the mechanic advised the RH headlight bulb had blown. He then advised the replacement was $280. Is there a less costly alternative available?. Narva p/n 49309.

From $78 each for GE or Philips on rockauto.com plus shipping and any taxes of course.

I just replaced both D3S HID globes on my Kl Limited.Only the LHS globe was blown.I got 2 of these off ebay for $52 including postage and 2 year warranty.Dealer quoted me nearly $600 to supply and replace both globes, and told me job was really difficult, and that it was also really dangerous due to high voltages inside the globe. The job took me around 10 minutes to do on each side, globes were really easy to remove/install,and no i did not get electrocuted or I would not be here to post this reply.

If your h/l bulb is a H15 then they r exxy but $280 would buy a pair but still exxy. U can buy these much cheaper from any auto shop (Repco, SCA, autobahn etc) and if u r lucky they will even fit them for you.

A lot of modern cars have different types of h/l bulbs.... low beam may be the H15 and hi beam may b H7 which r about $70 a pair or thereabouts. And then there r the parkers which r different again. My amarok has 4 different types in the headlight assembly.

I just changed the H7 hi beams on the Amarok to brighter white and these cost me $59 a pair @ SCA on Easter sale. They were bastards to fit cos no room to manoeuvre a biggish hand. An hour later and a lot of swearing... and they r in! The H15 which r low beam etc are much easier to change and these cost a bit more as I said above.

The prices mechanics try to charge the naive are way over the top and the reason why car owners should learn to do these small maintenance things themselves. And if they can get away with it the prices they charge women are even wilder..... bastards!
