Commander recovery points

Hi all

Asking on behalf of a club member - I'm assuming the Commander doesn't come with rated front recovery points; what are the options?

Has anyone come across any aftermarket ones?

Hi,
You can by recovery points from US (or through your local Jeep dealer).
The MOPAR part number is K82208987

One little minor piece of info, The MOPAR part number K82208987 DOES NOT fit the CRD here in Australia.

All Jeeps sold in Australia come with factory recovery points that are suitable for most recovery situations.
The Commander has a large recovery point on the front. You would only bother changing it if you were doing lots of heavy recoveries.

I believe the the welded front towing point on the Commander and Grand Cherokee is rated at 1500kg, the proper hooks they use in the US are rated at 4500kg.

tonto

what are you on

the recover points on the tj are fine to use to snatch a car out of a bog - you can ad an additional point front and back to get a better balanced tow but the std ones work fine - have recovered plenty of cars on the std points all models of jeep

I was a bit worried about the front point on the XH when I got it. But I have taken it to both a mechanic and a mechanical engineer and they both told me not to replace it. So, it'll just have to wait until ARB make me a bullbar.

I'm not sure about the commanders but be very careful using the tie down point on the grands as a recovery point. Grands weigh more than 1500kg (recovery forces would be greater) and are unitary chassis. If you only use one side there is a risk of twisting the chassis. You need to have 2 rated hooks, one on each side, and an equalizer strap hooked onto the hooks and the snatch attached to the equalizer strap.

All this is just a precaution because we all know jeeps dont get stuck:) :) :)

I found my tow hooks on EBAY USA for about $180 delivered

The problem with the US hooks for the Commanders is that the bracket doesn't fit because of the radiator for the intercooler (CRD). I will probably find someone to make me some new brackets.
