Engine just stops??? So this has now happened twice in my CRD WJ.
Coming home from work last week, I stop at a set of lights in Colac. Engine splutters a few times then stops. 5 or 6 start attempts and finally it fires up and away we go. Check for fault codes and there are none there. Drive another 500 ks around home and it doesn't miss a beat. Heading back to work today. Stop at the very same set of lights in Colac.Engine splutters a few times then stops. 5 or 6 start attempts and finally it fires up and away we go. Check for fault codes and there are none there. Drive for another hour and a bit and doesn't miss a beat. Would anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? I have checked for air in the fuel several times and doesn't appear to be any. I'm thinking maybe it just doesn't like Colac??? Strange there are no new codes for it, especially since it will have a few failed starts after. Also seems a bit weird it has only played up at this one set of lights. WJDiag is working. I have a constant Battery temp sensor fault up which I can reset and then see it return. |
Sounds like an air leak in the fuel lines?
I am battling an air leak now for months and I am not sure where it is coming from. It has similar symptoms and does not show any codes. However, these are typically in the beginning when I start the car (once it runs, the fuel gets pulled from the tank). It started when I installed the new fuel filter so I assume somewhere around this area air is getting pulled. If you have a larger air pocket in your lines (typically you wont see it since they are covered with this black protective layer) and it is suddenly getting pushed to your injector lines this could happen. |
Yeah, air leak keeps coming to mind.
After the first time it happened I changed the fuel filter straight away and sealed up the lines very well. I have several parts of the clear tube uncovered, and not once seen air in it. But like you suggest, it still niggles in the back of my mind that air is the most likely cause. It is just strange though that I have no trouble at all, but twice at this same set of lights about 600 ks of driving apart. I had also been driving for an hour and a half prior to it happening both times. Was perfect for the whole time right up to the shut down. Still at work now and it hasn't missed a beat. Gonna head home a different way and test the "my car hates Colac"theory. Then head back here next week through Colac and see if she gives out on me again. Does your care stall completely, or just other signs? |
Some issue with the fuel tank sender maybe?
I ran out of fuel once in a roundabout. It took quite a bit of effort starting back up (I coasted in neutral right into the gas station). Anything particular related to that stop? Slope? Hard braking? Lots of coasting before? |
Well, my fuel tank sender has it's issues, but not thinking it is a level problem. Drove for several hours after each time on the same tank. If I park on anything that even resembles a left hand drop off (So any curb side parking at all here in Aus), then I indicate zero fuel for a bit before it starts reading right again.
Nothing in particular I can think of about these lights. 50 zone in Colac, but so is half of Melbourne. No huge slopes in either direction. Heading back home tomorrow, then back here again on Sunday. Hasn't missed a beat while at work, so lets see hey..... |
Are there any leaks under the HPFP? Thinking it can lose pressure under certain conditions only but rare anyway. can you check fuel pressure when that condition happens?
|
Will check under the pump tomorrow. Haven't noticed and fuel dripping from it, but could be early days maybe.
Made it home today and ran perfectly all the way. |
