metal on metal noise from wheel Hi Guys,
My 2010 WH has recently started making a nasty metal on metal noise. Sounds like it's coming from the drivers side wheel area. Makes it at all speeds. E.g. low speed (e.g no accelerator crawling out of the driveway and high speed on the freeway) but not all the time. Comes and goes. It sounds a bit like a train on train tracks. Was thinking maybe an indicator that my brake pads need changing? I'll take the car in to the mechanics next week as it is coming up to due for a service, just curious if anyone else has experienced this and what it was? Cheers, Dave |
Rock in brake dust shield maybe

^ This sounds like a possible culprit. If your pads were worn you would get the noise when you braked only or it would be all the time.
A rock would cause the noise at any speed but it could be bounced around/heated into and out of a scraping position. Maybe you can have a quick look yourself. Can check for the rock itself or you can just have a look to see if you notice any scrape marks that would fit the bill. Let us know how it plays out! |
+1 for a rock.

Rock or brake pad wear indicator.

Thanks guys. No evidence of any rock - rotors looked OK both sides. It's at the mechanic now so I've asked him to check it out.
