Glow plugs for 2006 Hi all,
What glow plugs should be used on a 2006 Cherokee KJ (185K km). Bosch recommend part 0250202038 which is an 11v plug, but Jeep said I need 7v or 5v. NGK also recommend an 11v part. 2 different diesel shops also said the plugs I need are as recommended by Bosch (11v). I am aware there is a Bosch 5v plug (0250402003), and a lot of people in the US use it, and no ECU programming is required. So, what glow plugs should I be getting ? Ps, Jeep quoted $220 for 1 glow plug. |
you definitely need 7 or 5 volt plugs

At this stage I am most likely looking at 5v Bosch as ID Parts are recommending it due to better performance, and there is no need for ECU flashing.

There should be a placard on the top of the engine giving the voltage of the GP's. it will throw codes if you dont replace with the same voltage.
Have you tested the resistance of each to make sure that its the GP & not the plug or wiring? |
In our 06 I replaced the original plugs with Etecno 7v. They cost about $80 for a set of 4.
They were plug and play, no flash required. |
Since I have over 185K km, and still on stock ceramic type plugs, I will be replacing them regardless. At this stage the recommendation is to use the Bosch 5v due to better performance, and no flashing should be required.
The 4 Bosch plugs (0250402003) cost me $66 delivered from the UK. https://www.idparts.com/glow-plug-5v...rd-p-2858.html |
I used Etecno direct from Italy years ago, no issues with them at all. It is a job that requires some flexibility. The first two are pretty easy, but number 3 and 4 are not. You may have to remove the intake elbow to get in there. The right tools will help, including a uni-joint socket joint or a flexishaft. A thin wall socket is imperative to get onto the plug, the plug nut sits inside a recess. If you do remove the intake elbow, it is a good chance to clean it out.
