Electric Water pump - Davies Craig EWP
 

I installed an Electric water pump today. It is a Davies Craig EWP 115 with pump and controller. All I can say is 'Fantastic". It is set for 95 Deg. I trimmed the impeller on the original water pump, so now it's just an idler pulley. It's great to watch the temp guage get up to temp quickly, then drop about 5 deg. It does this all day. The outside temp here is always around 40 deg so if anyone has temp issue it's me. Now I can relax. I installed the pump near the A/C compressor. It's also nice to hear the pump running after you have turned off the engine. It will run for 2 minutes or when the temp drops 5 deg below setting.

Nakkas, excuse my ignorance. The water pump keeps your temp down to 95 degrees..... yes? My xj runs poorly at 100 on hot days.... and it is 40 or more most days here over summer. Its performance on rough terrain on a hot day is very ordinary.

The pump is controlled by the controller. Under the set temp, the pump operates for 10 secs then off for 10 sec @ 6 volts. When the set temp is reached the pump operates at 12 volts. Because the pump has a flow of 115 litres a minute it works well to cool the engine. Only when the temp goes above 5 deg of the set temp, the controller turns on the electric fab that I have. At this stage I have not heard the fan come on as the temp has not gone above half way on the guage. I might go down to the beach today and give it a real work out.

There are 5 temp settings on the controller 75, 80, 85, 90, 95. Mine is set to 95 as this I believe is the thermostat setting.

Will be following any additional info on it with interest ... I especially like the overrun feature of the pump after ignition switch off.

Notice you have modded your bonnet .... Anything else done to cause different results to factory operation ???

e.g. ...

radiator type,
fan mods,
aircon core still in place,
oil cooler variations .... etc ....

Also wondering whether you monitored temps at the rear of the head ... or the top hose coolant temps ... before and after the electric waterpump mod ???

The EWP temp sensor is in the top hose.

Interesting point on the EWP website is you can set the temp controller for power or economy. I gather from this is if you set the temp to 75 deg, the engine will run richer and hence more power. AT the moment I can't do this as I still have the thermostat in, but an interesting idea. Instant power..

I run a 12 " electric fan in place of the standard fan
A/C core is standard place
Same oil cooler. I run a temp sensor on the AT cooler line
Bonnet has 2 x 8" holes in the bonnet scoop.

Also, I removed the radiator to install this and found lots of bird feathers blocking the radiator that I couldn't see before.
