94 xj abs light

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with and ABS light on the dash. I have cleaned off the sensors and i have also checked to see if the sensors work and they do. I have no blown fuses and both the abs pump relay and abs system relay click when power is given to them. How do i fix this issue?

My rego is coming up and i need to fix this issue to pass.

The ABS system has a port near the centre console that can be plugged into a scanner. You may have to take it in to a Jeep dealer. I have an obd1 95 xj with abs and bought a scanner on eBay used for about 200. Check my vsb14 thread.
I had problems with the air gap. It should be about 1mm on the rear sensor between tone ring. I do believe light will stay on if one of the fuses, or power to them is playing up...

I have looked for a port under the dash and I couldn't find one, the wiring under the dash hasn't been touched but there was no port for a scanner. What should it look like?

The ABS Data Link Connector and ABS Control Module are found inside the vehicle to the lefr of the driver on a 95 XJ if so equipped. It is on the hump in front of the centre console. The PCM and its associated Data Link Connector on the 95 XJ are found under the bonnet..this is per the 1995 XJ FSM. I have the snap-on mt2500 with modules and cables for obd1 xj.

You have a '96 ?

If so, it should be OBD2 equipped

If so, it will have a rectangular 16pin connector adjacent to your left knee

The '96 has an early version of OBD2...not all scanners work with it
1996 was the 1st year of obd2

I ordered a BAFX unit for about $35 from ebay USA

they are guarenteed to work with all 96 vehicles

it took a lot of mucking about, but it now works with my Android phone via Bluetooth, and shows certain live data as well
