Need a Decent Compressor, Which One?

I'm after a compressor that will plug into my cigar lighter to use for pumping up tyres on the odd occasion

the last one I bought from Supercrap for about $120 crapped out and wouldn't pump over 20PSI after about four uses.

I didn't keep the receipt so am really pi$$e@ off and was fuming when it wouldn't work when it was meant to

any recommendations on a decent unit that's reliable?

Well not really because the ones that are designed to plug in to your cigarette lighter by design of not wanting to draw much current through a vehicles fitted cigarette wiring arent very powerfull and aren't capable of much more than a quick single tyre touch up.

I use a starke CMP195A and it works very well. I got it on greys online for about $50, needed a new hose but I would likely have got a decent hose anyway.

Had it a few yesrs and its filled my 32 and 33 inch tyres from 18 to 35 psi about a dozen times and takes very little time to do so. They look pretty similar to the other 150psi 190l/min outfits getting about I'd say they mostly come out of the same factory..

It pulls 45Amp though so unless you want to burn your car down cigar lighter would be out of the question for a decent compressor.

I got the double thumper from Kings, it's cheap, huge and works a treat, quicker than my mates expensive ARB compressor. Does my 32's from 20-40psi in a minute flat per tyre
Straight to battery with it running though as it sucks some juice.

Get a ARB one and wire it in with a relay and switch, as stated not through the cig lighter outlet.

I got a DrAir one about 7 years ago and still works a treat.
I bought it from autobahn. It came with a 5 year warranty, but that has not been needed. It pumps up 4 tyres from 18psi to 36psi in the same time that my mates hard wired arb does. Connects to battery with alligator clips. It isn't overly big either.

I have the arb portable one in the "tool box" had it for about 4 years or so. The only issues have been the inflator have crapped themselves that attatch to the valve stem. Set me back about $350 from arb. Pretty good consitant unit.

Cheers
Brad.

I have both the 4WD Supercentre's Thumper as a portable and ARB's single compressor hard mounted in my JK.

The Thumper is quicker than the ARB one and is a great compressor for the price. I highly recommend it if you aren't going to hard mount a compressor onboard.
