Glow plug question 2.8CRD

Can the glow plugs fail & no codes show up & glow plug light still go off after after a few secs before cranking?
Car has started taking lot of cranking to start when cold. Once warmed up starts immediately. Battery one year old. 2006 230,000 km
Wondering if it may be glow plug issue?
Thanks for advice

The current cold weather is not helping.
Because of the current restrictions I am not using the jeep every day. It is taking longer to fire up.
That maybe what you are seeing. My DD (06) has 200,000km.

Turns out to be the battery....died this week. Optima red, 2 years old- disappointing. (alternator is fine). Fires straight away again😀
