2013 - Wk2 - Blown turbo hose
 

Hi All,

Just clocked over 40K Klms in the wk2 - up till now it's probably been the best Jeep we've owned (TJ 4.0L , KJ 2.8L CRD, JKU 2.8L CRD, JK 3.7L Rubi, GC 3.0L WK2)

It appears that the Achilles heel of all the CRD jeeps we have had is the turbo hoses (specifically they become soft due to oil, then fail) - However at least on the KJ it took 90K Klms

I've had a look but Samco don't seem to have released a silicon hose as yet for the 3.0L GC WK2 - More than happy to upgrade to silicon hoses these seem to last very well.

The dealer (as always they have been very helpful :)) have ordered the replacement hoses (Unfortunately the are on back order 2-4 weeks :()

IMHO - If you are planning a remote trip in a Jeep CRD - then spare turbo hoses really need to be on your spares list.

BTW: The symptoms were a whistling noise from the Jeep whilst accelerating or under load for a few weeks:confused:, then (when the hose fails) a massive pop (sounds more like a BANG :o) - The check engine light and the red error light in the middle of the dash come on and the Jeep has very little power available.

If your lucky then you will just split the hose, at least you will still have a small amount of power left.

Anyhow, just wanted to share what's happened and hopefully make someone (when it happens to you in your WK2 GC 3.0L) a little less stressed.

Bugger. Thanks for the heads up. Mine is just coming up to 40K and I am planning a big trip away. Hmmm. I wonder how much the hose costs? Not keen on outlaying money on something that is warranty, but also not keen on being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Is there any exterior sign of the wear on the blown hose?

Same, thanks for the heads up Laz. Mines done 42K and I spend very little time under the bonnet... ;) any chance more info of what to look for or pics of the hose if pos so we can check?

Warranty - yes (The Jeep Turbo Hoses for a KJ cost me better part of $850 when it burst after 4 years and 90K)

This thread has details for a workaround - using an oil catch can (this separates the oil from the air (combustion gasses etc) that comes through the PCV valve into the low pressure side of the turbo (probably before the inter cooler)

Pictures - It's at the workshop right now so I'll ask them to keep the old hose for me.
