Used Castrol for years but changes were "chunky". Last change went to Redline which has improved the smoothness of the change - have the AX15 box -

Whats cheaper - a decent oil or a new box ... . . .

Did my ax15 gear box yesterday with Royal Purple Synchromax and it has already made quite a difference to the shifts - where first and second used to be quite stiff they are now shifting much smoother

from what I understand the ax5 and ax15 gearboxes require a GL3 oil.

therefore according to Royal Purple and other Jeep forums a straight 10w-40 engine oil should be used in these transmissions in lieu of Synchromax, otherwise the synchros will slowly destroy themselves.

Agree about the GL3.
I researched this yesterday before getting the oil and from reading on this forum and some US sites I understand synchromax is compatible with GL3 and is used frequently in ax15 boxes

Mechanical clutz question again ... is Redline oil fine in any gearbox? Don't know what's in my '05 TJ but I'm keen to use only the best of the best.

Tried to buy some at Repco today but they didn't have it. Where do you buy this liquid gold?

there's a Bursons near me that sells it.

make sure you have some gold bullion to buy it
