Hit a bull dust hole on a smooth sandy section of the track, had sped up to 100 ks then a huge bang as we hit. Stopped to check and heard the grinding of the axle on the bent stirrup that connects the suspension strut to he lower wishbone. Lesson learned, 80 k is as fast as you should drive on these tracks!! Very long slow crawl back to the bitumen some 300k away! Lucky car still driveable! Recovery costs out there are big!

I take it you have a WK2 then? Looks like they have swapped the lower part from cast to stamped steel.
