The owners a braver man than I. I would take my old WJ up there no probs - but too scared to take the WH let alone a brand newie. Great to see it being used! And great to see it being very capable!!

Don't watch the vid of me doing Old hilux hill then! Just a bit of crunch on that one!

Mick drove really well, even drove telecom hill. All the WK2's were awesome over the weekend!

How did you compare to the two Toyotas on the trip?

Numb Thumbs 21-07-2013 09:47 AM

I did a Crossover trip in January, and at most times. my old green Terracan was the only non white vehicle!

As to the two Toyotas... I was usually at least 1 litre per 100 kms less fuel consumption and had heaps more power and torque and a MUCH better ride. The guy with the Troopy had traded in a Discovery 3 for it, and I think regrets it! Those things are primitive trucks! Turning circle like a super tanker, no creature comforts - not even cruise control! - and they rattle and bang their way around the country side.

I drove straight up the centre line on Big Red- the left hand one was chopped up so badly you would get all four wheels airborne at the bottom - on the first run, easy as, while the Toyotas and Nissans there on the day all struggled, nearly all failing, apart from one guy with a V8 Toyota, or maybe, Lexus, who got up on his third try from memory. A guy in a 100 series turbo diesel got up after at least six or seven goes.

The others all had new respect for the Jeep...
