Paranoia Just got my JK CRD back from the mechanic after its second rebuild, 1st time was a big end 2nd time a snapped crank.
I have noticed I have a strange sound at idle, it sounds like either the ac compressor or the Alternator is loose, the noise cycles with the ac clutch but doesn’t disappear when the ac is turned off, The engine has new timing belt and water pump and I expect a new serpentine belt, i recently replaced the belt tensioner so it shouldn’t be the belt tension. My other concern is it seems to be smoking at idle at the lights and smelling like its running rich. The sensors in the intake are clean and not loaded with crud, the injectors were all tested by Bosch and within spec. Any ideas on both issues or am I just being paranoid. It’s going back to the mechanic tomorrow for a check up however any input is appreciated. |
I get paranoia just from reading everyone else's issues!

Once is an accident.
Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action! Remember, just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you! |
Don't discount the possibility of a faulty idler pulley on the serpentine belt. Take the belt off and run the engine temporarily to see if the noise is gone.
Do those injectors need coding to the ECU? as it is a necessary step on many CRD designs, I would check that with your mechanic. |
Squeaky/worn A/C compressor clutch?
My Landcruiser used to do it... |
Had the same noise before the timing belt broke due to incorrect cam timing, where the tools used when reinstalling the cam shafts after the build?
