Reminder on Diesel Bacteria (bugs) Cmohr's recent post in the Fuel Economy thread (KJ Forum) should serve as a reminder to all diesel owners that the diesel fuel bugs could be living in your fuel tank. It's important to buy fuel from a reputable source preferable with high tank turnover (fresher the better), and to dose your tank with a bug killer additive now and then. If you store fuel in containers then make sure you dose the fuel with the additive and don't keep it for very long in those containers.
It's worth a quick Google of diesel bugs to learn more about this topic. I found this one: http://www.diesel-fuels.com/ most of the websites are promoting their particular solution but the important thing is to understand it and deal with it. |
What is an off the shelf additive that you can buy? I would be keen to give mine a dose.

This is more of a problem with marine applications for diesels. The stuff you want for dosing is startron ~ penicillin for diesels or something like that.
Clean fresh dry diesel is the best way to avoid problems. The bugs appear as black gunk, it looks a little like crumbed up rubber. If you have a fuel filter with black gunk in it, you have an infection. This is the stuff i think. You can probably get it at supercrap http://www.coastinternational.com.au...52d-237ml.html |
Jeep dealers sell one, a Mopar Diesel Treatment; and there is Diesel Power which is available at Supercheap, Autozone, etc. Most general purpose diesel injector cleaners type stuff also contain a bug killer. Read the bottle.
I use this stuff: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...aspx?pid=10386 |
Cheers for that, I might grab some soon!

I use liquimolly diesel treatment. 30ml per tank $18 for 600ml

HI Glen....
I've been running Diesel Power in the tank for the last 2 years, but I had never changed the fuel filter since I got the CRD 2 years ago, I should have changed it back then, but, been busy.. |
