TJ Wrangler fuel efficiency

I know TJ's are no 4 cyl corolla...But I am getting 300km to a tank on 98 octane.

We just had a hole in the exhaust fixed and was hoping that would improve it even ever so slightly. We are running 31.5's all terrains but we do have extractors fitted but I'm not sure if that'd make a difference..I don't think it would.

But also the engine light does appear showing a oxygen sensor problem which I was told it's just because of the exhaust system...any suggestions? It does sound quite nice with the exhaust :)

Are you running the tank out to get 300km?
Or is that when the low fuel light comes on?

I get another 66 (ish) kms after the low fuel light comes on and have deliberately ran the tank empty twice to check.
But results will vary - I've heard of TJs getting another 100 kms after the low fuel light comes on.

Just a warning if you do run it dry to check - Mine gave no warning it was going to stop - no coughing/spluttering. One second it was running, the next, nothing - it was like turning off a light.
I don't know if all TJs behave like this - for reference, mine is a 97 3 speed auto.

So on a good day, I'll get a total of about 440kms from a tank

I regularly get 400km to the tank. I think the problem lies in the very restrictive air box inlet. Mine was poor also before fitting a snorkel.

Mine is a 3rd car so it doesn't get a lot of use, 98 model, 3sp auto with extractors and 31 muddies. I put 43 litres in the other day and had done 290km's. I am getting 14-15 litres per 100km's. No idea on the tank size standard, 60 litres I'm guessing, so that should get me what 400-410 to empty I'm guessing? Seems to use less around town than it does at 100kph given the super car aerodynamics.
It was going to be a first car for my step daughter while she saves up for her own car when she turns 18, but given their thirst, I don't think she will be doing much saving. Anyone knw what the tank size on a Sport is anyway?

It's usually a 72 litre tank. I've done about 120klm on the E light. Last week I filled up when th E light came on and managed to get 50 litres into it. 72-50= 22 litres left in the tank.

cheers

Thanks guys,
I did about 20km on Empty and refueled...I think i might put a jerry can in the Jeep next time and run her dry to see.

I do have a snorkel and a KnN air filter as well.

If I can get 370km on a tank, then I'm satisfied haha!

I have a scantool which has helped me alot with my economy.

The biggest change was making sure i didnt labour the engine changing down gear alot earlier then i expected has saved me about 1 ltr per 100km.
Keeping the tacho around 2 and changing gear a bit later instead of short shifting also seemed to help.

The worst thing i did for my fuel economy was switched to steel rim over alloy.
