Ex Army Trailer

Not really a camper trailer but my offroad trailer.

I picked this up two months ago from Grays Auctions and registered it finally today.

Ended up doing quite a bit too it but it's a great little trailer now.

When I first got it it had the military NATO plug on it and a Lunette for a pintel hook, this all had to change.

Lighting was also not suitable and it had no mudflaps etc

Got to work

Replaced the lights and added mudflaps.

Then replaced the lunette with a Mchitch

And then registered as a 1969 ADI (Australian Defense Industries) 1/2 Ton Trailer :)

Next to make a removable battery box so it can sit in camp running a fridge all topped up with a solar panel.

Cheers

Looks good Steve. These were made to suit the Landrovers the army was using at the time with matching track and wheels etc from memory.

Yep, skinnier than the Jeep but they did up the wheel-track to suit the Defender and Perentie so not quite as skinny as they were originally. Still runs Land Rover wheels and hubs on the axle though, the hubs are overkill on the trailer.

This particular one has probably done a tour of duty from what I can find, have the log books back to '74 but nothing before that but did find pics of one with a ARN number close to mine in Vietnam. The history is what drew me to getting one :) Even took it back to the mechanic that did some work on it in the 90's for the Blue slip as he was 5 minutes from my place!!

It has been serviced and repaired every 12 months since new in '65!!

The number plate is the ARN number which is how I can tell it is so close to mine. Mine is 154489.

Added chains to the mudflaps today, always been on the todo list but one of the muddies ate one so thought I better get it done since I didn't want to keep cutting new mudflaps.

Turns out the manufacturer that makes the covers for the Army has had to find a new market, now they sell them to the public :) Grabbed a new cover (mine had some tears and holes and the canvas was worn thin), made from Australian canvas, and ordered a jockey wheel as well.

Fits great, excellent quality, should last a long time.

Decided to add a jockey wheel but wanted a removable one as I don't need it most of the time, also offroad I can put it in the tub where it won't get damaged.

Welded a pipe mount on.

Painted it and done :)

Pull the pin to flip it up, put the pin back in, then wind it out to lock it against the chassis/tub so it won't rattle.
