Tail shaft removal

Trying to get the rear diff off a wrecked chassis. Took out all eight bolts on the uni but I can’t get the tail shaft off the rear pinion.

Is the shaft splined or something? How do you get the tail shaft off the pinion?

You can punch it from behind, it has two 10mm? holes you can get a punch into. Mine was stuck in bloody tight.

Thanks for the tip. I wouldn’t have figured that out myself. So these holes are somewhere between the eight tapped holes the bolts protrude through?

The hole in the middle.
