Grand Cheroke 3.0 V6 CRD - Rotten Egg Gas Smell Hi all,
New to this forum and Jeep ownership. I've just purchased a second hand 2006 Grand Cheroke 3.0 V6 CRD. I've noticed a significant rotten egg gas (suphur smell) comming from the vehichle (especially when the vents are set to fresh air). I've contacted the local dealers here in Canberra and they were unable to explain away the problem or given me a solutions. Is anyone else familiar with this problem and hopefully a solution. Cheers, Navy Guy |

I have experienced same in the past, very intermittent, seems to have gone now. Nothing to say it won't return though. I'm keeping the above bulletin in mind if I have a recurrence. Cheers.

How many Kms Has it done????? If its a Demo, or still under 10-15kms This can be the catalitic converter causing the smell, its the hot exhast gases running through it they can give off that smell.... Usually thats what it is! |
Navyguytwo, I have a 05 WH, I get a horrible smell my dealer has located to the windscreen wiper water tank. It is badly located behind the front guard near the front tyre and disc brake assembly and apparenty a breeding ground for bacteria because of the heat. The smell gets into the windscreen rubbers / vents and paint etc etc. Its a putrid smell the dealer recognises but say they cant do anything about it because Jeep have not sent out a service bulletin

That must stink hey!!! hummmm festy warm Bactiria!!!! |
Perhaps its coolant leaking/dripping onto the hot exhaust. It then instantly dries and burns and gives off a smell not dissimilar to the rotten egg gas caused by faulty cats on petrol engines. Pressure test the cooling system and always suspect the radiator cap. For the small cost, replace it.
