Bungle Bungles
 

Just wondering if anyone has done the drive into the Bungle Bungle park? Some say it's 50 kms very rough/corrugated but is it too bad?

Drove into the Bungle Bungles last year. It's an excellent area with good dirt roads in the park, lots of places to view and some good walks if you're interested in that kind of stuff. Camping areas in the park.

Driving in from the highway was a little bit rough track with creeks and humps and rocks. As long as there isn't a lot of rain and fast flowing creeks you should be able to access the area. We drove our Prado in with a 2 inch lift and zero issues. Maybe the area is closed during the wet season (I don't know). Will be there again in the next time we are in the NT/WA area.

Towed our camper trailer in there with our 3 inch lifted XJ in 2012 no issues at all. Bit rocky in spots and a few creek crossings but easy as.

I was there in Aug 2012, the road in from the hwy is easy for a 4wd, if there was no risk of water crossings then I am sure cars would be in there. Its a little rough, prob average dirt road condition really, mild corrugations. It was twisty though, lots of blind corners and meant that sometimes you had to drive real slow. When we were there I counted 29 creek crossings, some were tiny little streams, and some were bigger, but nothing massive, deepest was about axle height and maybe 20m wide. Just air down at the start to smooth out the corrugations and enjoy the drive.

We were driving a hired Patrol that was stock and left it in 2wd, didn't even air down (I wanted to but the other 3 guys with me said she'll be right), and it was still fine.

Once in the park, the roads around the Bungle Bungles are much better cond.

defiantly worth the effort as the Bungle bugles are amazing. we did a trip up the centre and through the Kimberley a few years back. see the page 6 of the thread http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...=139363&page=6

in short: we towed a camper trailer behind the JKU along the 53km dirt rd would take 2 hours. We did one and a half hours each way. The road isn't hard but is windy and tight in some areas. It also has some blind crests. You do need a bit of clearance as the small water crossing can be steepish. Nothing major though. We didn't need to engage 4wd but we struggled to get above 3rd gear due to the nature of the road and we were towing a camper trailer.

other favorite places out that way were, Tunnel Creek and Cape Leveque. also the Broome Visitor Centre is a great place to get information and for us was a one-stop-shop for book things. also if the family is into pearls, Willie Creek Pearls (the shop near cable beach) has an awesome range and some great deals. my kids had a ball spending their money in their and to be fair the service was great with as much attention paid to my daughters spending their $40 on a million cheap/discounted items as to those spending big $$$
