Engine life
 

I have 80000kms on my 2014 diesel and have decided I want to keep it long term so want to take some measures to extend engine life.
Is it more important to fit a catch can or should I start with getting the egr turned off with a reflash?? I will get the intake cleaned on my next service.

The damage is certainly done by 80k without a catch can. Intake, turbo and intercooler will be caked in oily shit. But if you manage to clean it up, definitely worth fitting a catch can....should be first mod with any new diesel. Turning off the EGR is neither here nor there IMO, it is said to keep EGT's lower than they would be without the EGR. Best thing though for engine longevity is regular oil, oil filter, air and fuel filter changes using quality parts. With diesels also avoid extended idling and short trips if you can.

serviving every 5k and country driving . MY my14 has done 85k , serviced every 5k and do at least 1000km of country driving a month, sometimes up to 5k a month

Yep, oil & filter every 5k/6mths for me plus air and fuel filters every 10k.

Just had my 100,000 Klm service.
My advice is catch can, EGR delete, DPF delete, tune, add TCW-3 2 stroke oil to each tank, and have it regularly serviced.

As a result, mine has heaps of power and torque, has averaged 8.6 Lt per 100 Klm's from new and the oil stays as clean as a whistle, even after 10,000 Klm's.

Having said this, a client of mine has done just over 180,000 Klm's without any of the above, and it's still hasn't missed a beat.

none of those are truly needed to extend the life of the motor . Regular highway driving and regular servicing are all that is needed . Those other options amount to thousands of dollars ontop of your normal running costs . Mine even with nearly 150kgs of extra weight and roofracks averages 10l/100
