Dreaded Airbag Light/Chime and Clockspring replacement.

As above, had the dreaded chime and airbag light come on a couple of months ago...

A quick scan revealed yes, the clock spring issue. After an ebay search I went with the $120 cheap Chinese option instead of the $600 Amercian version. I did see on here somewhere that a cheapy did fail in a month or so, but I thought Id give one a go (cheapskate). Most units for vehicles this age cross over multiple Chrysler models.

Solved the chime every 20 seconds issue by removing the airbag fuse under the bonnet....

Finally got a spare few hours yesterday to do the install. After watching this

a couple of times I got down to it. I must say, I found removing the airbag with one of the wifes small lipstick mirrors much easier than he did... Thanks Darl..

The unit came out looking like a pile of spagetti - aka a stuffed clockspring... Swap over the stalks, all good.

Put the fuse back in, crank it over - Airbag light still on. :-( Panic Stations. Stay cool, check the fuse again, yep, dumb shmuck, didnt push it down enough. :wall:

Hooray, all good.

Total time taken was about an hour and a half. The only real issue was not noticing that a special head is required to remove the screws under the steering wheel - one of those pentagonal thingys you see in screwdriver head assortments.

Cheers Folks..

My Chinese one only last a month, so hope they are not all the same. Least the Chinese one didn't blow the airbag when it failed, as I have heard they can do!
I got my Mopar one from here locally and no more troubles.
