Homemade bumper Started on my bumper today, right now all I've done is bought the steel, taken the stock bumper off and made one of the brackets to mount the new bumper. The plan is to have it look like this one except with recover hooks mounted underneath and no hitch.
http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/100_0492.jpg As of this afternoon I have one bracket done so it looks like this. The outer bracket that runs back along the chassis and picks up on some extra bolt holes is 6mm, there will also be a 6mm angle bracket welded on to this and bolted to the front valance. It will have about 6 bolts through it. http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/al...2761.sized.jpg And the bumper looks like this, hopefully it wont end up looking like a piece of railway track strapped to the front ;) It will sit a little higher than this and there wont be a big gap between bumper and grill. Total cost so far for steel, $56. More tomorrow. Cheers Steve |
Onya Steve. Love the handy work on your jeep lately. Go jeep 2?

any plans to mount a winch?

That will look tough once completed!

If the tow points are going to me mounted underneath, make sure they are fairly beefy. The concern is that after a few whacks they become weaker.

Anyway here's the updates from this mornings work, couple of hours to make the second bracket and measure and cut the bumper. Hopefully today I'll get the brackets welded to the bumper and maybe get the corners cut and turned back to run towards the flares. The recovery points will come last as I need some more angle steel first. Cheers Steve |
