The 2018 Wrangler JL remains true to Jeep form with a fold-down windshield, removable doors, a removable roof, four-wheel drive and an available six-speed manual transmission.

There’s some new stuff, like a more refined cabin, 2.0-liter turbo and 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines and an eight-speed automatic transmission, but for the most part, it’s just like the Wrangler many “Jeepers” know and love.

If anything, most of the comments we observed about the new Wrangler weren’t addressing the SUV’s available features, new styling or revised powertrain offerings.

Instead, they expressed their displeasure at how pricey the Wrangler has become – with some commenters mentioning they’d rather buy an older, used vehicle for the purpose of off-roading than spend upwards of $35,000 on a new Jeep.

No 3 litre diesel = no interest
Especially at the price

In the meantime the dates in the article are all over the place!

My son and I drove one that had the 3.6 V6 and 6 spd manual trans. We compared it directly to his '17 Wrangler with the same drive train (trans is different though I think). The expected amount of refinement given the 10 years or so since the JK came out. Quieter, shifted better, road better. However, I'd be just as happy with a JK myself. All and all a good update of a classic. I could seem myself buying a Gladiator. Presently we have an '07 WK Limited Hemi with QD-II and a '98 ZJ Laredo 4.0 Selectrac.
