XJ rear setup: aux power, compressor,audio & storage...
 

G'day fellow Jeepers,

Thought I would share my efforts as I go with a rear storage solution.
As per the title I wanted some enhanced general storage plus a dual battery setup. It also made sense to me to include a stealthy audio upgrade and there is room enough to house a compressor out of sight/sound.

So here's the progress:
Box is 16mm MDF, $60 will cover the carcass, boxes and drawer

In the above picture the small box on the left against the cargo barrier will house a 10" sub and the box to the right of it a blue top Optima D34 plus 10 way fuse box.

The cavity that runs alongside the fuel filler leaves enough room for this 4channel amp: http://mosconi-america.com/m754.html - which will run the front splits and the sub just nicely (I have also upgraded the rear pod speakers but they will be powered off the deck)

The cavity to the far side gives plenty of room for a 12v compressor, I'm thinking the Tigerz11 thumper when it's back in stock as it seems unparalleled at under $150

Pic below shows the lid assembled which is 3 panels, main L and R which are screwed in and rear R which will lift out for access to the aux power system

Final update for today:

Got the sub mounted, created a pseudo speaker grill to let the bass notes thru and carpeted and remounted the panels. The below pic doesn't show it but I took the same holesaw that I used for the grill to the lid above the compressor cavity to allow a little extra breathing room/airflow.

I cut some panels of 6mm MDF and carpeted them too which screw to the plastic sides above the shelf but below the bevel to the window. This is because a previous owner had butchered the sides and removed the 'cubby hole' altogether - it also gives me a neat way to install 4 12v outlets. To ciggy plugs and 2 Anderson's along the drivers side panel. Make it easy for a removable fridge setup plus some LED camping lights and anything else that takes my fancy really!

Just need to assemble the draw itself now...

Looks good but I really wouldn't have used MDF, although it is great to work with being very flat and consistent it is very heavy for its thickness meaning steel would be lighter and it is extremely absorbent so don't let any moisture near it....

The thought crossed my mind JJ - but familiarity with the product won out...

I will paint all the exposed faces and don't anticipate too much moisture (famous last words?)

As for the weight - it's not too bad, although it is hastening my search for new rear leafs!

That was a prob I ended up with, weight. I lost about an inch of lift due to weight with my drawer unit and it being fully loaded up. I used thick ply and it ways a ton. Shackles corrected my height.
