Visit to the Worlds Biggest Jeep!
Jimmy or other Admin, I not sure of the right forum for this so I’ll plonk it here, feel free to move it.
I’m working in Abu Dhabi at the moment and was curious to see the Guinness book of records listed WORLDS BIGGEST JEEP.
The Emirates Automotive Museum is 45km out in the desert, about 40 minutes drive from downtown Abu Dhabi. Driving on the freeways and highways here is in itself an adventure, the top posted speed limit is 120kph but there is a “buffer” of 20kph so you don’t get booked until you’re detected well over 140kph. Even at that upper limit other cars pass by as if you were doing 80kph on a freeway in Oz- driving at 140kph is not what I do at home as all of my Jeeps are from last century.
The museum is the private collection of HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan is housed in an air conditioned pyramid shaped shed, and contains a large but random collection of cars, utes, vans, 4 Wheel drives, Militarily vehicles, trucks, mini cars and a couple of worlds biggest caravans, biggest Landrover, biggest Ute, and of course Biggest ever Jeep.
Among the shiny collection Jeep is well represented, there’s a 44 Willy’s a couple of M151s, a Grand Wagoneer, a Grand Cherokee, a CJ3B, several jeep bodied custom things licensed others from Mahindra, Beijing Jeep Corp, Mitsubishi and even a couple of mini Jeeps.
If you’re in Abu Dhabi or Dubai and feel like a drive and a Jeep fix it’s worth the trip.
Pics to follow.
