Torx head (or star head) bolts on TJs... HELP PLS...

how the F@#K do you get those torx head (or star head) bolts out of a tj windscreen surround so i can make a light bar i have broken 3 sidcrome torx bits trying or is there another way to fit lights on top of a soft top? :wall:

get a socket set with a looong arm - hammer the head in to crack the locktite - gently apply pressure and they should 'pop'.... thats how mine were removed anyway...

I drilled mine with a small size, then with a large size to break the head. Then used a easy out to remove them.

Guys the easiest way to get these suckers out is to heat up the bolts first. Don't go getting a blow torch, but a decent heat gun or at a strech a hair dryer is what is needed. Your paintwork is baked on so there are no real issues there, just heat the bolt up enough so it's hot to the touch and they should come straight out.

Nah I vote the grinder ;)
Actually the real secret is to not leave em there for years before you attempt to remove 'em - I pulled mine out within weeks of getting my TJ and it was no trouble,,,,

This is what I do,,,,,,,
If you use REPCO torx not sidcrome or kingcrome (repco is stronger in torx) you can take the torx out of the socket with a hex key. then get a kingcrome Impact Driver (cheap I paid $22) and the torx will fit it.
I to have tryed heat but had no success it only heats the head and makes it easy to strip the torx but that was with an oxy, I think Lexx maybe onto something with the heat gun as it only worms it with a moderate degree of heat.
Anyway I hope I helped :)
