I'm excited for you. What guy doesn't want his own cave?

SeaComms 10-07-2014 09:42 PM

Will be 12x7 metre, with 2.7m gutter line as the roller doors are on the gutter side so needed a little extra height to get over 2m door opening. Unfortunatley though not all for me, will be an internal wall seperating 1/4 off for ladys land.... But still I get 9x7 to play with!

I had a huge man cave...then I got remarried and moved.....sad story, eh? lol

Nice..... I concreted another 1/4 of my 7.5 x 7.5 x 3 today, with just 1/4 to go. I am on here killing time as I will be finishing it off at around 1am tonight. Are you going a hoist? With the apex the way your having it you might have the clearance. I went with a pit in mine.

Na, not enough room for a hoist, though would be nice. Unfortunately it will be mostly storage with my 9x7 end having the van, tinny, bikes and all the general garage crap moved into there will have enough room left for a good little workshop.

Lighting question. Thinking of running 6 x 30w LED flood lights (120 light pattern) in two rows of 3 switched in pairs (think of it as a 3 car garage with a light near each end of each car space).

Thoughts?

Slabs now curing :) Shed gets delivered this week. Not sure when they are building it. Was going to do it myself, but then it got bigger and bigger... so now paying someone else who can fix it at their expense if anything goes wrong!

IMO I think twin batten fluros are the go. I have one so far and plan on getting another three eventually. I am getting another one this week from Bunnings. I had 5 double 10a power points installed and one double 15a installed. I need to save money so have run my fluro off an ext cord from the power near the PA door. I am going to run another off another ext cord to light up the other side of my shed. I eventually will get them hard wired but am short of cash as I need to save money for the house build in a couple of months. I am going to run the cable and screw the battens to the roof perlins and then when the electrician is coming to do my house I will get him to connect the lights and install the circuit in the sub board. Closest electrician to me is nearly an hour away so no point getting him out for a 1-2hrs job and pay $200 call out fee. BTW that's a nice looking slab. Mine is no where near as nice as yours. But I again needed to save on costs so had to do it myself with a cement mixer and help from friends. I reckon those flood lights would be good on the outside if they have a water proof version. I like the idea of a sensor light on the outside of the shed. The one I want will also have a way of switching it on manually so it can stay on for hours if need be.

Ok update on the lighting. I went with 6 x 20w LED floodlights (wired in 3 lot of 2). Just finished wiring them up today so now it's dark went out to have a look and very very impressed.

Still a ways to go with shelving and stuff but this was a few minutes ago testing the lights. I have a 3 foot twin flouro portable light and its like candles in comparison totally different light! The LEDs were $126 for the 6 delivered. Will get a 30 watt one now for an outside light.

EDIT: was $114 for the 6 so under $20 each
