Drive shaft squeak?

Hi,

More dramas.

I've developed what sounds like rubber rubbing. Mainly at slow speed, goes away above 60km/hr. Not consistent. Kind as if out of round rubbing.

Jacked rear wheels of the ground and the noise sounds like it's in the center of the rear tail shaft.
I'm assuming the sound is travelling from either the uni or cv.

Anyone had this issue? Anyone got a link to rear uni joint?

Seems to have started after the parking brake cable snapped and replaced.

Thanks,

Thats a new one, can only think that one of the oil seal runs without lubrication or your U-Joint is dried out and you hear metal on metal.

I had a similar thing the other day. Came home at night no issue. Then next day started to drive and heard this screaming squeak in the rear. Initially was freaking out because it was so loud. It went even worse the faster I drove, then I realised it is even more intense when going around corners, so I reckoned a twick or so had gotten in somewhere. I took everything apart and found that behind the brake calliper a small stone had gotten trapped between the dust shield and the rotor. No idea how that could have happened. This rig really seems to attract all sorts of issues.

Nonetheless, still have the CRD. I reckon I am not getting what I want for it, and just to get the roadworthy I have to invest quite a bit so it is cheaper at the moment driving it and maybe retire or sell for cheap once the Defender is up and running.

Sorry I haven't heard about that issue. The problem's I've had with driveshafts (Rzzepa joint) or axle shafts are the rubber boot breaking and the grease inside spitting out the joint. When the joint is out of grease you can hear some loud clicking/grinding when full steering left or right (axles) or loud howling/grinding when up to speed (driveshaft). This is an easy check from under the car, inspect boots or grease around joints. Hope this helps.
