Newbie in Melbourne with a JKU and a question

Greetings All,

Been in OZ just aboout a year - Kiwi... Can't call me a bludger, I am only allowed to pay tax!

Anyhow treated myself for Christmas and bought a 2013 JK Unlimited Overland.
It has the Mopar Black Ops Kit (so the dealer said), Mopar heat reduction bonnet, snorkel, 2" lift, winch bar and Warn XD9000i. Really nice vehicle with some bells and whistles. Youngest and most expensive vehicle I have ever bought!

Intention is to do some touring, around Victoria first and then interstate in the future.

Long story short...

I have found that both front shocks can be moved by hand at the upper mounts - they kind of slide/slop aroun in the mounting bracket - is this relatively normal?
- and do I just need to tighten the upper nut some more?
- the rubber bushes/grommets are barely compressed at the upper side.

I should state that this is with weight on wheels..

Any info in reagrds this appreciated.

Cheers,

Matt

Welcome and congrats.

No there shouldn't be any movement. It's a simple matter of tightening the mounting bolt on the top.

From memory on top of the shock there should be an allen key socket. You put an allen key into this to stop the shock from spinning as you are tightening the mounting bolt. Some shocks will, instead of an allen key have a flat section to use a spanner instead to hold it still.

The bolt should be tightened enough that there will be a slight bulge in the bushes.

Thanks Jamie.

That teraflex document was what I found yesterday. Good that it has torque values for the other mount points.

I have a limited range of tools here at the moment - most of my good tools are back in NZ still.

From what I can tell there is no bulge on the upper rubbers. So will give them a tweak.
