Steering Box Bolts Sheared Off!!! Yah , just got my Jeep back from the deal ship and panel shop , took 3 months to find parts and repair. They did a wheel alignment too.
Drives a lot better feels tighter too. Probably cost more to repair than the Jeeps worth. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Steering Box Bolts Sheared Off!!! Got mine back last weekend, Jeep supplied all the genuine parts & Wayne at Jeep Ford did the job because the local Jeep dealership didn't gave the skill set to carry out the repairs, drives great now & I won't have to worry about the steering box falling off again

Great to hear guys. Any chance of some pics??
cheers |
Steering Box Bolts Sheared Off!!! Here's a couple pics from the top , will try to get some from the bottom view

Thanks Wally3218.
Looks like 3mm plate. Did they remove the spacer, or modify it ? ;edit; sorry for the questions, I'm planing preventative maintenance. |
Steering Box Bolts Sheared Off!!! Bruggz351 not sure about the spacer will check when I get under the jeep , there was talk off still using the spacer.
Only problem I had when picking up the jeep was the noise the steering box made due to air in the system , now it's all good. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Mine has just begun making frequent "PING" or "CRACK" noises upon steering all over again...
Over this issue - I'm not sure what to do now, dealing with Jeep is nails on chalkboard and the last two repairs have bought me a couple of years max... |
Gee not what I wanted to hear Hamsteh , your repairs lasted a couple years hope mine last a lot longer.
The only thing the Dealership did with mine was to take it to the panel beaters and have them fix it after they found the parts. I would of loved to have found out how much it had cost, might of been more than the Jeep market value. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
My 96 broke it's bolts on the weekend, plus pulled the top bolt through the chassis. It was halfway down a tight rocky track in the wattagans when it happened. Should I go through Jeep and try and get it done for free or would it be less painless to weld a brace in myself?
