REAR Bar with Swing Away Tyre Mount This is now a serious item for me. After being away on a 12,000km + trip on dirt and corrigationed roads the spare tyre bracket is bad ripping away from the rear gate skin (annoying noise as well). Need to find the alternative.
I know that there has been some discussion on the matter with talk from rock lizard fabrications tp something out of Africa. I would really like some more positive info that can be followed through. Anyone who can can help here??? |
Hey, your back!!!
|
Rocklizard has stopped production for personal reasons - he's only doing the last few of those which are back-ordered.
Of the remainder, CRDSTU in Aus is proposing to make one, although I don't know how far along he is on the project, or even if he's started it yet - it was 4 or 5 on a list. You'll need to search this site for more info. There is a steel one from SA, look at www.gomad4x4.co.za, and a chap called Boiler in the US is doing a very nice one in aluminium (or aluminum as they say) - look at his thread on LOST - http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB...hp?f=1&t=51289 He's a mechanical engineer by profession, and has done a very good job in designing it. He's done a couple of prototypes and is refining the design to make construction easier (and therby keep the cost down). |
I'll be on the list for Boilers Aluminium Rear bar:

That is a nice looking bit of gear.

Yep - it is a lovely piece of work, and I'm more than happy with aluminium!
|
I also had a look at the one from lost as Glend has posted, and am driving up to the folks farm hopefully soon and get all the brothers and ol man to look at building one, I have also completed the centre roof console which adds a bit more packing space and now has a dual 27 meg/ UHF radio in it. So now the bar is the next project....... shouldn't be too hard to do. MAJOR dissappointment from gomad 4x4 dont even bother I spent months wasting my time with them!!
