Acceleration switch location needed
 

Hi Guys,
Can anyone advise me on the location of this switch on a 4/2003 model WG 2.7 diesel?? Also called a G-sensor and forms part of the ABS system. I have had the back seat lifted and felt further under the carpet but not located it yet so I am hoping someone can point me to it without removing most of the interior before I find it.

This is one that looks to be used on models up to 2/2003 so mine "may" be different

Its under the centre console and controls the air bags.

Thanks for the reply and they have possibly integrated the two sensors together but I'm not sure about that. This sensor although confused with airbag control really forms part of the ABS brake system and controls front and rear brake bias under braking and can in fact brake individual wheels independently.It consists of 3 mercury switches in a casing and is governed by gravity under braking.

ACCELERATION SWITCH
On the Jeep applications with the Mark 20e system, there is also a special "acceleration switch" (also called a "G-switch") to modify the operation of the ABS system according to traction conditions (important when driving offroad or on slick pavement). The acceleration switch contains three separate mercury switches (G1, G2 & G3), each oriented in a different direction to monitor the vehicle�s motions. The top of the switch housing has an arrow indicator that must face up and point forward. If the housing is misaligned, it can have an adverse effect on the operation of the ABS system.

Under normal driving conditions, all three G switches are normally closed. Switch G1 and G2 monitor forward deceleration, while G3 monitors rearward deceleration. If a certain G force is exceeded, it will open one or more switches, causing the ABS controller to select the appropriate control program for best braking.

Interesting nothing shows up in my 04 parts list on that number or description. Probably the same switch just telling differn't systems the same info as both relate to G force to operate so they would hang off one wiring harness.
Whats happened to yours ?????

I think they changed the part number as I cant see them deleting a switch mid model and integral to the ABS system. I'm having a conversation with my local dealer but nothing concrete so far. Mine looks to be malfunctioning as I have run numerous tests on the ABS with this part being the only possible cause for current symptoms. Others have had problems with it on different models but its not common,hides under the carpet and little is known about it even the parts guy was asking what does it do.

I scoured the thing looking at pics and everything, similar to that link in your OP, just couldn't find it mind you anything relating to ABS seemed to be scarce.....have found a few things that aren't in the listings. Would it be the same switch then that lives behind the front bumper thats for the air bags????

I haven't seen the one behind the bumper (I have ARB bullbar) but this one has three mercury switches, 2 for forward deceleration and one for reverse so I highly doubt they are the same. I agree though anything to do with ABS seems to not be covered too well. I hope to get some more info from the dealer this week. It should be on a level surface somewhere in the Jeep.
