Mud terrain tire recommendations
 

Hi all

I am planning to get new tires and I was doing some research.

So far I tend towards Mickey Thompson MTZ P3 or BFGoodrich MT KM2 but would be interested what others have on their WJ.

Any good recommendations potentially also toward load capacity (is 119 or 120 enough or should I better go for 123?).

I have the Mickey Thompson as 315/75/16 and they are quite loud. Wouldn't mind but they are also 400 Dollar each while the BFG are around 310.

My new measures with be 265/75/16.

I've had the Cooper STT pros until I bought my WG. I would buy them again as its like being on rails on or off road. Very chip resistant also.

I've had mickeys in the past and rate them also. Only thing bad I've heard about the BFs is they wear quickly. That's from mates not personal experience though.

I am running MTR Kevlars and so far they have been nice, also the maxxis bighorns seem to be good value.
Personally i have had a bad experience with coopers, had them in my dads car and the lugs would tear into the tire causing large unrepairable holes, and on my brothers car they would slip on the rims under heavy braking on road, which caused the bead to rip and start leaking, also some scary moments trying to stop :toilet:

I've never used Mickey Thompson or Cooper tyres but I know people with a clue that have, and they wouldn't waster their money on them again.

A cousin of mine has Summit Mud Hogs and found them to be really good for the money. Way better than the BFG AT's he had previously.

Don't believe the marketing hype of the bigger brands is my best advice, also don't listen to people without a clue, they often just regurgitate their own biases.

Ronny Dahl has some "honest" tyre reviews on how YouTube channel, amy be worthwhile watching.

Reducing unsprung weight is what it's all about for me but may not be a consideration for others. With 15" rims I run BFG's because they have always been lighter when compared to anything else, not sure if it's the same with 16's

Im running Comforser3000's, (admittedly on a JK) cheap, 3ply sides, taken a truck load of beating over 2 years and 40000kms including 2 high country trips, and better in the wet than the Cooper STT's I used to have.

I too have Comforser 3000s on my JK. I paid $180 a tyre from Huntsman Products online for 265s.

I love them, they are light truck rated, I have them down to 12 psi on sand and have been great. I've done long highway trips, plenty of sand and mud driving and they haven't even looked like wearing after 10k or more I've put on them.

I'm going to definitely get another set soon in 33s this time.
