Nice pics Bent
Whats the story with the ZJ?

bikemat 31-05-2006 04:36 PM

What tyres are they MRGC?
They look quite aggressive, what's the road noise, grip and fuel economy like with them?

scottyzj 31-05-2006 06:04 PM

Thanks Gump.
What do mean "Whats the story"?
Dont make me type a 'Ive done list'. Cant type very well.
Bought it stock. Now looks like that.
& my passenger/partner has that look on her face every time I bring it home 'Bent'.

They are the legendary goodyear MTR they are aggressive for a mud tyre there ok on the road, just as loud as bfg all terrains, havent noticed much difference with fuel economy due to only being used offroad, goodyear ATR 265/70/16 for road, the MTR is 245/75/16 looking into getting 265/75/16 MTR soon.

bikemat 31-05-2006 06:49 PM

Thanks for the info, i'm on the goodyear ATR's at the moment, how would you compare the two? And what sort of money are the MTR's?

Huge difference in traction especially with the MTR's side biters pricewise the MTR were from memory around $310 somewhere there but I know what ever it was I got the best deal rang 30 tyre dealers and negotiated to get the best price I got them from Macarthur tyres in camden Ken was the peson that looked after me he fitted and balanced and gave tyre pressure gauge for free.

If you are looking at buying a set 2nd hand I might be selling mine soon to make way for the 265/75/16 MTR once Ive relocated the rear shock to accomodate the for articulation.

I'm embarassed, but it is still stock.

I do have a 3.5 inch kit on order from Wooders, and a nice Hanson bar on its way from the states (via High Country Customs) so it will be respectable soon...

Don't be embarrassed.
Any Jeep is a cool Jeep. From a stock ZG to a TJ on 50's.
Mine used to look like.

Fantastic offroad, I usually deflate to about 18psi as they have a very stiff side wall being 10 ply, there is a low hum on road but nothing compared to other muddies i've had.

They're a soft compound tyre so they perform well onroad and in the wet but for the same reason they do wear quickly, I only expect 50k out of them but I am hard on them so others may have better results, the best solution would be to have a set of onroad tyres as well, I intend to get a set when the finance minister approves.

Gump 28-06-2006 01:12 PM

I was proud of her this day. She outdid the tj behind us.

Mate, don't get a lift kit yet.. get better tyres first (I've got 245/75/16 BFG Muddies, and they've made my car 1000000x better than with crappy stock tyres and does much better than any lift kit will do), then perhaps get lockers if you're going off road heaps.. then get a lift kit IMO.

Its all part of the plan - once the lift goes in I'll be picking up some new rubber.

If good flex + tyres wont get me up it, im probably not driving on a legal track (in Sydney at least...)

Gump 29-06-2006 11:07 AM

Hmmmmm, nice limited97.

Not an action shot, but when it gets used I'm usually driving & also drive the camera too. Will have to rethink that one.....

SMBCJ 30-06-2006 12:02 AM

The lights were only for the trip - too vulnerable and cop-enticing up there full time. I cut a length of 30mm angle bar to fit between the roof rail front mounting points, drilled some holes in it and gave it a small arch then fitted it to the original front roof rail mounting points and used a home made loom to wire it in.

the lights are Cibie oscars with 130w bulbs. It takes a little to stabilise vibration and the setup is low at rest but perfect at 100kph. (the bar moves a touch)

Gave 1000m of vision plenty of roos to see but hit none.
