WK2 2012 - Recovery hooks Hi,
I'm sure this has been discussed before. There are discussions the WK2 2011 front end differs to the 2012/13 and not cater for recovery hooks to meet euro standards. Has anyone fitted the below (link) themselves before, specifically on a 2012 model, and was it difficult? I'm guessing the (link) below are a complete set, as opposed to what a 2011 would require(which is a bolt on solution recovery hooks). http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Jeep-Gran...item5d3a925c4f |
Recovery points Two hooks are not recovery points
The one you have found on ebay is for USA and i don't it would suite the australian model Jeep australia have designed one and you guessed it at twice the price $340.00 pick up Very bad design Very had to use or to get a snatch strap on Obviously the people who desige these things never use them. Easy to fit just time about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to fit one |

Do you have a link or pictures designed in Australia? The one in the link on ebay looks more transparent to our cars.. |
Hi imaz, what a great question. I'll try and answer from my knowledge and perspective and let others chime in as they see fit.
The US version of the WK2 has the same chasis for years 2011 to 2013. These tow points on ebay look genuine so for the US would suitable. There are 2 chasis versions of the WK2 exported to Australia. The 2011 version came complete with two recovery points same as the ebay picture ones. The 2012(which I have) and the 2013 versions, were exported to Australia with a shortened front chasis. The recovery hooks on ebay US will not fit these versions. Jeep Australia have had manufactured for Aus a single rated recovery point that meets ADR design and safety rules. Occasionally you will find these on ebay.au from Northern Motor Group Jeep in Melbourne Happy to provide more commentary if needed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
Tow v recovery Tow point is just that a point tha is not rated to any standards for use to drag car on to flat bed tuck
The tow point will not take much stress and will come away from chasis if you put too much load on it. A recovery point is a rated point that can take a load and take stress Such as recoverying from a mud or sand bog. Hope that helps Yes you would think the australian version would be thevsame as the USA version but sadly not we have been short changed |
I can tell you if the media release for the Trailhawk that list and pictures two front tow hooks is accurate when i go and see mine on Saturday...

This is ridiculous for the enthusiast 4x4 Guru's... So - Tow Hooks are rubbish, and ALL should be Recovery points... Anyone have retro fit a recovery point for the fronts of a WK2, AUSTRALIA Model? I shall assume the rear recovery point on the left is a true recovery point then? |
