Xj engine upgrade

Hi all. I currently have a 2000 xj jeep inline straight 6. Contemplating replacing for a v8 or upgrading the 6 in it. Feel be alot easier to send engine to a shop to stock it to a 4.7l and do some internal work. Hoping for about 350hp. Does anyone know a good shop to get this done or what parts to buy to do it myself. I'm in south brizzy. Cheers guys.

Lots of vids on Utube showing I6 strokers and the mods, it would be a good place to start. Maybe contact some of the companies posting them and see if they will sell and ship parts to Aus.

Cheers. Be more keen on finding a shop here in aus. Be alot easier and avoid shipping ect.

I stroked a 4.0l back in the day when the Aussie dollar was $1.10 to the US and got all the parts real cheap. Remember, higher stroking and power = less life span of engine. I’d go 4.4 to 4.6 max personally.

350hp / 260kw is a lofty aim and will require a premium cost in what you will need.

Have a read of this article -

About 6 months ago a fellow advertised his XJ for sale on this site for $5,000. It had a fully imported 4.6 stroker by Golen (from memory). That would have been a great buy for you as you could have just done an engine swap with a reco job and parted out the rest of the truck. Thanks for the articles. Alot of good information. Still more keen on finding a shop in qld tho. I will look into kit costs and import costs tho. Have a mate in Mexico, might be able to figure something out with him. What gains did you get from yours, and what where benefits on road and wheeling.

Anthonygubbins (hope right spelling) had a ser of new stroker pistons for sale a while ago. He no longer has jeeps but would be a good guy to talk to.
You may be better doing a LS conversion. Much newer motor and cheaper for parts.

Appreciate the comments. I've always loved the idea of ls swapping different 4x4s I've had over the years. And if the right price came up I'd consider it. Just alot cheaper to help the heart that's already in it. Also keeps it 100% jeep. I've seen guys on YouTube getting just under 400hp n/a. So figured 350 be good. But 300 is ok aswell. There are crate engines putting out 290hp for 6.5k. So seeing what a shop can do here in aus. Appreciate hp can lower engine life. But when done right and looked after will always last.
