generators??
 

hey all
looking into buying a generator for camping to power lights and charge phones and camera batteries etc.

For that price you can't really go wrong. It's a pure sign wave type so you'll be right with sensitive electrical gear. It's only 700w so it won't run most appliances that have heating elements ie: modern kettle/toaster, hair dryer, but most people don't really take these things camping.
If ya get one let us all know how it goes, it's cheaper than most dual battery setups that you might not want or really need.

Going "camping" with generators is much like "going to the beach" with JetSkis, IMHO. It misses the point and spoils the experience for everybody else. Have you considered a battery instead?

Haha I have one it worked now it doesn't. Don't let it run out of petrol when stuff is plugged in(it buggers the inverter or something) , other then that it worked bloody well.
Mine just free revs now and doesn't produce electricity.

It's going to be a cheap piece of Chinese.... For that price buy a second battery and run a relay off the ignition. Easy, cheap, simple and silent. If all you are doing is charging batteries and for lighting buy a small motorbike sized Agm battery and stuff it somewhere in your car. Led lights use next to no power. I have a couple of 22 ah Agm batteries and they will run a fridge for a couple of days. They are worth under $100 each.

A generator is overkill for your needs. It's heavy and you need to carry fuel.

The sound of a generator may not drive you nuts but I guarantee it will annoy the crap out of anyone camping near you. To charge phones and cameras etc you are going to have to run it for a couple of hours.

A little generator that is super quite and nice and small is a great asset to have when camping especially if it will run on the same fuel as your vehicle, admittedly I would say 700W is way to small but would be perfectly fine as a backup charger.

I have a remote start/stop generator and love it, it is very quite and up until recently I only took a single 30Ah battery with me and the big fridge and all other accessories (like media centre and projector) would need something to charge battery daily. Running a 40amp charger and the generator of an afternoon was/is a great option for keeping enough charge for the night and also supplied power for other devices to be charged/use when getting dinner ready and stuffing around at camp of an afternoon (yes I go glamping, nothing like sitting by the fire watching a movie on your outdoor cinema by the beach). Admittedly I am also the same type of person who takes a small chainsaw with them on most camping trips, who wants to exhaust themselves chopping firewood when you can pull the trigger on a machine instead and get a little enjoyment out of the chore while you are there, you are meant to be on holidays so everything should be easy and/or relaxing :)

With my new Black Series camper and the addition of a 40amp DC-DC charger, 40amp AC charger and the 120W solar panel all to charge the the 360Ah deep cycle battery bank ensures plenty of power is available for the the 3000W pure sine-wave inverter so there is no longer a need to take this generator with me other than when we are running a 4x4 or drone events and require the additional all day supply of a 240v power source. This of course all cost significantly more than the cheap generator listed and for only marginally more than the listed price of that generator you can get a generator that would meet most peoples power requirements (charging/running laptops etc), it will take up less room than the above items and have much more functionality as it can be used without the need of having a bunch of other equipment connected and functioning (batteries/charger/inverter) and of course is more portable. Combine the generator with a small battery that is large enough to keep your fridge running overnight and you have a great little power plant ready to go anywhere you are and can be stored in the shed when not needed.

Generators? Chainsaws? Media centre? Projector?

With all due respect, somebody camping near me who felt the need to use all that stuff would shit me up the wall. Some of us go camping to get away from noise and bright lights...
