Tailshft

Do I need to drain the oil in my tranny before I remove the tailshaft?? I've got a squeaking uni but it only does it when reversing and I know its not the front shaft because I've removed that and its still doing it.
The reason I ask is that 'in the old days' the seal was around the shaft and after removal you needed to put a bag over the end, but it only oozed as it was 90 weight oil.

Not in yours as yours will be a "dry" yoke style transfer case....
