Taller tyres
 

Im up for new tyres and Im thinking of fitting 15X 31 inch to fill the gaurds after the 3 inch lift.
Is there any drive ability problems with the taller tyres.
Running 15X29 inch at the moment and staying with standard gear ratios.

Not worried about rubbing etc. just basic driving and towing problems with the taller tyres.

you should not have any dramas
use a GPS unit as a speedo
or yo can do the regear on thr speedo like on gojeeps web site http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm its worth the read anyway
it also may seem like it uses more fuel
any you may need to adjust your bump stops for clearance ECT

I find towing a little more demanding ,ass moves around a bit more, although at 4inches of lift and extended shackles
That's to be expected

You will most likely find that towing will suck bith performace wise and fuel wise, even if you change the speedo drive which will correct the speedo reading the auto's shift points won't be correct for the new tyre size as they are determined by the output speed of the trans so it will change gears at the wrong revs to suit the load of the larger tyres.
To do it correctly new diff gears are the way to go...

Thanks Junglejuice, you've just made me reconsider and stick with standard tyre size.
Dont really want to get into re-gearing the diffs.

You can always do a smaller step up, I ran 30x9.5s on standard gears for years and didn't have any issues(that said I wasn't towing any gigantic boats or horse floats). I only upgraded my gears when I went to 32s.

I run 9R's,towed a 5m boat from Bris to Bundy and returned.It sucked with STD gearing,3rd gear made it run hot and 4th was too tall on anything but a dead flat.Did the job but was horrible,not fun.
Petrol Nissan patrol(spit) run 3.9 gears,XJ run 3.55...so 9R's are the limit I reckon plus less rub.4.1's would be perfect with 10R's but will set you back $600-$700 landed plus fitting HTH
