Power options

Well the water question has been answerd so my next question in my quest to get the right gear for off road camping in my JK sorted out is power. Camping will range from weekend overnight stays to week of more camping in a tent.

For camping for a week of more what are others doing for power, so far I have a 3 way fridge that will run on gass while away and I think I may run a wet cool box for beer and drinks.

I have also purchased a small 1kva gen when it was on sale at BCF for small electronic items and have now thought about getting a ARC battery unit as I can get a battery for free and using a solar panel to charge it. Do I need it ??.

Cheers Stephen

Wow 50 views and no one has any ideas to share on what they do for power.

What do u need to run in 240v

Btw 3/4 of the camping grounds don't accept generators , there nearly a waist of money IMO. I have a genni and use it only for emergencies, a ran a 190w house panel under my roof cage that slides out with a really good mppt regulator that punched out over 12 amps that's more that any generators 12v supply . I now have a battery bank big enough I sold that solar set up and just use batteries and a power inverter to run 240 v things with reason I must add, mainly chargers for rc cars and cameras electric tooth brush. No Tv's or stuff like that.
What els unlike to know ?
Hope this helps

I only picked the gen up as its was cheap and thought it would be ideal for places that allow gens and as a back up for the fridge if I run low on gas, really just want to run the normal 240 v stuff that you run when camping.

Normal 240v stuff when camping? Like what?
Never used 240v when in the bush. 12v lights etc are fine.
Dont need a tv, they dont work in remote places & if you want to watch it you should have stayed home. :-?
If kids get bored & want computer games, send them out looking for fire wood. ;)
Have done 10 day canoe trips in the past & didnt have any LPG stuff or even 12v stuff, just a torch. I thought going camping was not meant to be like at home.;)

Yeah, i'm with layback as far as i'm concerned, you don't need 240v. Yes i don't have a fridge, but a 12v battery system with solar panel should be more than enough to get you through.

Now don't think i'm an old fart who does everything the hard way like in the good old days because i'm far from it, about 45 yrs from it in fact. But you can charge an ipod/iphone off 12v. And my LED lights, will run off the car battery all night without even making a dent in it.

I can understand camera batteries for super extended trips where your covering a lot of ground, but a plug in inverter would work fine whilst your covering that distance, you jeep is running.

So maybe a small aux battery and panel to keep everything topped off. But we are 4wding not in a contest
