Dash Cams

Advice needed on a good wireless dash cam, since I got sideswiped last week by a hit and run I'm going to put a camera front and back, rear one on the van hence the wireless as I can't be stuffed ginning around with cables. If there is a next time I want piccies. So a set up that will record with GPS, unobstrusive and dead simple to operate, not costing big dollars also, saw one online at Jaycar that seemed okay. I just have the standard radio in the Jeep but want it to be portable.
So whats your choices, gentlemen ??

I have an elcheapo ebay dash cam. It just records everything. needs a power lead as battery is only good for a few hrs, has a motion sensor so if anything comes within 20 m of the jeep it starts recording. No GPS does have date & time. I dont think you can replay through the unit, put SD card in PC to look at, does 5 minute records & then starts another, when card is full, it just copies over the oldest one. Cost ~ $20 on ebay.

There seem to be plenty of able cameras around mate. A lot of people use the GoPros but they are not wireless and they are no good in the dark. When you find one make sure they will work well in low light, otherwise your footage will very grainy and you can not make anything out in your video clip or picture.
Further there seems to be a problem using that footage in court if it comes to that as the videos are not tamper proofed (software wise) and therefore not admissible as a normal person. However if you are the police they can use facebook video clips to warrant a arrest based on the same type of video clips..so its wide open for everyone's guess.
Sad that we have to drive these days with cameras to protect yourself. :0=

Do want the GPS feature as the other day didn't have a clue as to location, had to try and work it out on the Navman and a map and good point regarding low light and battery life, I like the movement sensor also. Heaps of researching to do for sure.

I have one of these $100.00

This is the GPS Version

Both have movement sensors & are 720p but getting a number plate is not that easy, it all depends on the light. If you want good clear images look for a high frame rate around 60fps. These are 30fps, maybe there pro version at 1080 would be clearer.

Sample of quality from mine.

i got navman cam 1080p. cost me $250. shows you were you were and shows video footage if you click on the route (on computer). show speed and also has a g force sensor so puts that file in a special folder so doesnt overwrite it. that function means if you get hit it will save that file automatically were as normal footage overwrites when memory card is full. video footage is extremely good. if you like i can show the image to you. there are cheaper navman ones but the dont show your gps and footage isnt as good. like 576p or 720p

Navcam looks good, I've added it to the list, will go tyre kicking next week.
