97 xj 2.5td diffs into 96 xj sports I would like to change ratios and have a lead on the diffs out of a 97 2.5td update should be 3.7 ratio is there any difference between the 97 td and a 96 4l sports pre update
|
No, the only difference is the handbrake cables, I did this years ago (d35) and it was a straight swap, I have since refitted my original, regeared diff.
When I did it I removed the axles and brakes, swapped housings and refitted the axles and brakes. As for the front it should be a straight swap, if you're front hubs and brakes are in good order do the same leave the hubs and brakes with the car and swap housings.... |
Thanks jj , just have to find out if the 30 is hp
|
Certainly should be if it's from a '97.....

Were late build post-update XJ's with D35's have non-C clip diffs, like WJ's with D35's ????
Just curious, but also a plus for the OP'er |
is there an easy way to tell if it is non-c clip diff
|
yes pull the rear cover off - where the axles go into the housing, you will see the c clip (i think from memory)
i think all prior to 2000 had the HP D30 - the latter had the weaker LP D30 like the TJ's |
